Supernatural - Like a Virgin

I just watched this episode, and I don't think I could even tell you what happened. Or what the monster was.

Sam has his soul back. No one told him, but he knew something was up so he got it out of Castiel. There was an excalibur style sword and a virgin hunting monster.

I miss the Supernatural that I fell in love with, the ones that were scary. So the first half of the first season. I thought the introduction of Angels was a good thing, a nice twist and a good balance. But the angels seemed to be just as bad as the demons and I am slowly losing interest.

Gossip Girl - Damien Darko

I watched this a few days ago, so can't remember that much of it anymore. Probably should have written this straight away.

This episode was a just a bit boring.

Blair and Dan
I read about them both having an internship at a magazine a couple of months ago, and it seemed a bit contrived, but I think they managed to make it work naturally, well as natural as anything is on Gossip Girl. These two are also the only characters who seem to be doing anything that everyone else their age is doing. Studying, being pretentious and working for free in the hope that it will help in the future (it won't. especially these days. you are just free labour.)

Chuck and Blair
They had a nice, very brief, moment. I think that was nicely done. It wasn't overdone, cheesy or anything like that but it made you remember that they still love each other. And throwing some hope to all their fans!

Blair
I like how they've given her purpose. She isn't just about 'being a strong, independent woman', which is general, non-specific crap. I think they are angling for her to be a Stylist/Creative Director type person. Makes sense.

Nate
Was he even in this episode? Oh yeh, more Dad stuff. Boring.

Chuck and whoever
Don't care. Stop giving them screen time. Stop ruining Chuck.

Serena
Dull.

Gossip Girl - The Kids Are Not All Right

So, Gossip Girl. I quite enjoy the show overall, although there are times when I question why I watch it, mainly when I am reluctant to watch an episode (normally when I don't particularly like a plot line).

So anyway, this episode is the first one since Christmas (why do American shows have so many breaks?!), and it wasn't bad. It did all the catch up stuff whilst setting up more ongoing stories and new characters were introduced.

Let me run through each Character/story.

Blair and Dan
It was obvious from the last 5 minutes of the previous episode that the writers are setting these two up to become a couple, they continue with that idea in this episode. If it didn't feel so forced, I think I would like it more. It just feels like they just looked at who was single and thought, hmm, lets put these two together. We haven't done that before. I mean I get the fact that technically they are the most similar in a lot of ways, but I think it should have been more gradual. But then as Chuck and Blair are end game, that can't really happen. I think this storyline is going to cause some conflicts in upcoming episodes mainly with Serena and Chuck. Serena because God forbid someone has a life without her, and Chuck, because well, just because they aren't together, doesn't mean they aren't together. Even though he can still shag anything that moves.

Serena and Dan
I really don't care anymore. Serena needs to stop acting like such a dumbass. Oh I'm sorry I didn't show something came up. HELLO, that is what MOBILE PHONES are for. She couldn't take less than 1 minute to send Dan a text to say, sorry can't make it?? Dan needs to stop being such a loser. Blair was completely right. Grow a pair, stop being so pussy whipped. But seriously, you missed an important interview because you were waiting for Serena who you know to be fucking useless and always leaves you in the lurch? For Fucks Sake. Just stop it. I don't care if they get back together or not. Either way it'll be boring.

Nate
Nate is the memeber of the group that is kept around for spare parts, or at least so it seems. His storyline are nearly always completely sperate to the rest of the groups, or he's just there as a sidekick to make a couple of smart quips to make out he's important. I don't give a flying fuck about his Dad. I think Nate and Chuck need to be seen doing friend things more, we get the whole bromance thing between Nate and Dan, but Chuck is supposed to be his BFF, and I just don't see it. Apart from a few short phonecalls, you don't see them as friends.

Chuck
Will shag anything that moves. It's boring. We get it. Chuck probably has spyhilis. I'm bored of see him with a million different women.

Chuck and Lily
This whole issue with Bass Industries is boring, and dull and I don't care. I wish his work would involve more than just scheming to stay on top. Just run a damn business.

Chuck and Blair
I love Chuck and Blair, but they've been ruining everything about them recently. I get that they had to split them up, because it was just too perfect too early. But WHY with Jenny? (Still bugs me). I loved the fact that Chuck was going to propose but then I remembered how old they are supposed to be and it got weird. It was hilarious earlier this season when they were just having sex a lot. And I think it was a good way to resolve the whole thing, they love each other and that's all fine, but they just need to grow a bit first. If they are meant to be, they will find their way back to each other. Eventually. I don't think it should have been so easy to resolve though. Anyway, I digress. I think it was good how they aren't going to have these too just mooning at each other. That would get old. No complaints here. Yet. Except for why does Chuck have to be just a whore?

Serena and Ben
I just don't care.

Rufus
Also don't care.

Lily
Why does she have to be such a bitch?

Jenny
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Blair
I love Blair. I wish her fashion was a bit more like season 1. She sometimes dresses like she's middle aged. She's supposed to be 20 (I think?). I hope one of her life lessons over the course of the show is to not scheme so much. And for her schemes to get better. She hasn't ruined anyone and is not as much of a bitch as everyone makes out. I think being friends with Dan will probably be good for her.

New People
Don't really care, it's just going to be unnecessary drama that ends with some sort of massive scheme.

Remakes

So this year seems to be a year of American remakes of British TV shows. Being Human, Skins and Shameless.

Being Human
To be honest, I haven't finished watching the first episode of the American version, so I can't really say too much about it. I did find it funny how the American version of Mitchell was called Aidan (the name of the actor who plays Mitchell). Also, bit confused as to what Aidan and Josh (I think? American George) jobs actually are, it looked like Aidan was a doctor/nurse type of person what with the whole gloves and blood bit. If that is the case, I find that a bit strange for a number of reasons.
1. Mitchell/Aidan is supposed to be off blood. Surely working in a hospital is bad enough, but to be literally working with patients/close contact with bleeding people, that's got to be hard right?
2. In the British version, Mitchell and George work as hospital porters because it is below the radar so to speak. Zero responsibilities, they blend into the background and no one notices them too much.

Shameless
I've watched the first two episodes, and all it really did was make me want to re-watch the original. There isn't anything really wrong with it, it has more or less been following the script scene by scene. I'm just not really sure it works. I think it will grow into it's own after a few more episodes and be fine. I don't think I will be watching it by then though. I'm a bit surprised they chose to set it where they did and not somewhere like a trailer park ala My Name is Earl. Because of the nature of the 'community' and the criminal activities of everyone in it!

Skins
This is the remake I have the biggest problem with. Like Shameless, this has been following the British script but a million times worse. The acting is beyond awful, they haven't adapted it to American teen life - or at least it doesn't appear to have and they watered it down (see Tony's duvet cover) yet are still being told off! I read somewhere that Tony was too flamboyant and they wouldn't be surprised if it was gay, and whilst I don't think he was 'flamboyant' I kind of get what they meant.

Not a massive fan of the remakes, I think they should have been adapted to their American audiences more, they didn't need to be identical to their originals because some of what is in the originals won't necessarily work. Being Human and Shameless will come in to their own soon, Skins just seems to be around to court some media attention.

Happy Endings

I mentioned happy endings in my previous post, so I thought, why not start there?
I asked, who doesn't love a happy ending? And I think I'm going to stand by that, but only to a certain extent.

For the most part, the entertainment industry is about escapism. You go to a movie or TV show to watch someone else's life, not your own. Of course you want it to be a bit realistic, you need to be able to relate to the characters. But if their lives were identical, why would you watch it? People like to watch stuff a think, yes that could happen to me! I could meet the perfect guy, I could have the greatest friends in the world, I could have the wildest stag weekend, I could win the lottery, I could have the perfect hair. You relate to the characters, understand them and their motives, and then enjoy their triumphs.

For example, Sex and the City (the TV series, NOT the movies), most girls who watched it say that they are like one of the characters. Sex mad, career obsessed, fashionista or old fashioned. Who wouldn't want to have Carrie's closest? (maybe not the actually clothes she has, but the idea of it, amazing!). Or doesn't want to have a high flying career? Or want to get married and have children? Or feel comfortable having sex because they want to (rather than it only being a man thing to do... if that makes sense?) Generally speaking, most women will fall into one of those categories.

On the other hand, it is annoying how some things are so predictable because you know who's going to get up with who and that they will live happily ever after. When normally they shouldn't. Like in RomCom's, the couple are happy at the start, have some sort of problem, break up, mop, make up and are all happy even though they haven't resolved whatever the issue was in the first place. So you know, even though the film has ended, that really, they won't be happy for very long. Generally this only happens in poorly written, poorly acted crapfests.

It isn't really satisfying when there isn't some sort of definitive resolution (like a big kiss scene or death). Just look at The Break Up with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. You invest like two hours of your time into watching it, and they don't even get back together! They just bump into each other then walk away. Don't get me wrong, I did find it refreshing. People break up for a reason. Sometimes it's a petty reason, but it doesn't mean that they should get back together.

Point is, you want the people on screen to have what you don't have so you have something to aspire to. At least that's the plan. Just don't go and paint your self blue because you think that will make you happier. It will just make you look mental.

Introducing...

The brief description of what this blog is, sounds a bit bad. I will try to clarify.

I love watching stuff. TV shows and films mainly. Music and reading are other loves, but not nearly as high on my list as they used to be.

My boyfriend will tell you that I watch too much stuff, that it's all crap, but he's wrong. I just can't trust the opinion of someone who worships at the altar of Lost.

So basically, I watch twice as many TV shows than most people I know.

Sometimes I just want to talk about what's happened, you know? So this is my place for that. Whether or not anyone replies doesn't really matter, I just want to get it off my chest.

A little about me. I'm a girl. I've been in denial about my age since turning 21 a couple of years ago. Not a fully fledged fan of how life is turning out. I enjoy the escapism of TV, film, music and literature. What's not to love about a world that can be anywhere, anything can happen and hopefully there is a happy ending. Because honestly, who doesn't love a happy ending? (Obviously there are exceptions, but that's another rant.)
