Remakes

So this year seems to be a year of American remakes of British TV shows. Being Human, Skins and Shameless.

Being Human
To be honest, I haven't finished watching the first episode of the American version, so I can't really say too much about it. I did find it funny how the American version of Mitchell was called Aidan (the name of the actor who plays Mitchell). Also, bit confused as to what Aidan and Josh (I think? American George) jobs actually are, it looked like Aidan was a doctor/nurse type of person what with the whole gloves and blood bit. If that is the case, I find that a bit strange for a number of reasons.
1. Mitchell/Aidan is supposed to be off blood. Surely working in a hospital is bad enough, but to be literally working with patients/close contact with bleeding people, that's got to be hard right?
2. In the British version, Mitchell and George work as hospital porters because it is below the radar so to speak. Zero responsibilities, they blend into the background and no one notices them too much.

Shameless
I've watched the first two episodes, and all it really did was make me want to re-watch the original. There isn't anything really wrong with it, it has more or less been following the script scene by scene. I'm just not really sure it works. I think it will grow into it's own after a few more episodes and be fine. I don't think I will be watching it by then though. I'm a bit surprised they chose to set it where they did and not somewhere like a trailer park ala My Name is Earl. Because of the nature of the 'community' and the criminal activities of everyone in it!

Skins
This is the remake I have the biggest problem with. Like Shameless, this has been following the British script but a million times worse. The acting is beyond awful, they haven't adapted it to American teen life - or at least it doesn't appear to have and they watered it down (see Tony's duvet cover) yet are still being told off! I read somewhere that Tony was too flamboyant and they wouldn't be surprised if it was gay, and whilst I don't think he was 'flamboyant' I kind of get what they meant.

Not a massive fan of the remakes, I think they should have been adapted to their American audiences more, they didn't need to be identical to their originals because some of what is in the originals won't necessarily work. Being Human and Shameless will come in to their own soon, Skins just seems to be around to court some media attention.
